Own dies. How do we cut the leather?
How do we cut the leather? Dies and die cutters.
One of the many things that make Autenticasbotas desert boots unique is their manufacturing process, since we use custom instruments and tools.
One of these tools are the so-called "die-cuts" and we have recorded a video explaining what they are and how we use them to make our desert boots.
In case you didn't know, a die is an instrument normally made of iron, formed by sharp edges to cut or stamp skins, leather or cardboard. In our case, we use it to cut the pieces of leather that we need to make the boots.
We have custom dies to cut each section of the boots, some wider for a large number of feet and others smaller. For the manufacture of desert boots, 3 dies would be needed: one for the instep part, another for the heel part and a last one for the tongue.
We normally use this type of die and die-cutter to work delicate leathers such as silk nappa, or the leather we use to make Stellar boots.
In turn, we also use cardboard guides as a pattern when we make the cuts by hand. We use this above all to work the split leather, since it provides us with better results, and we always prefer that the process be as traditional as possible.
We hope you like the video and that you learn a little more about Autenticasbotas and the manufacturing process of our beloved boots.
